The Penicuik Centre comprises a 25 metre, 6-lane competition-standard swimming pool and leisure centre, with associated changing facilities, and a community library. It is situated adjacent to Penicuik High School, Carlops Road, Penicuik.

The swimming pool has a partial moving floor, allowing it to be split into a normal 15 metre pool and a 10 metre shallow pool suitable for use by young children and learners. A spa, steam room and sauna are situated adjacent to the pool. Wet change facilities are located on the same level and contain individual lockers and family changing cubicles. A disabled changing room is also included, and, thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Penicuik Swimming Pool, a disabled person’s hoist is available to aid entry and exit from the swimming pool.

The leisure centre features a fitness suite with 60 cardio-vascular and other exercise machines and an activity studio where aerobics and other classes can be held. Dry-change facilities are adjacent, and a dedicated stairway allows the users of the leisure facility to access the swimming pool without entering any public areas.

The library has a number of themed zones serving children, young people and adults. Ten computers with internet access are available for use and there is also a dedicated quiet room for those who wish to study or research literature. A community meeting room and display area also feature in the library. State-of-the-art RFID technology enables self-issue and return of books.
