Hardies were appointed by Coatbridge College to oversee the construction of the first phase of Coatbridge College’s development master-plan programme. This required the complete refurbishment of the B-Listed South Building of the Kildonan Street Campus and the provision of a new-build atrium area to link South and North Buildings, with new entrances and reception zones, a shop and coffee lounge. There was a particular emphasis on DDA provision throughout the development, which was undertaken as a design & build contract with the design team novated to the Contractor. Within the refurbished area, the project provided enhanced teaching facilities, improved lounges for staff and students, and level access throughout.
Following the liquidation of the main contractor in November 2010, Hardies oversaw an emergency works programme to protect the site and appoint a new contractor following a competitive tender, and the commencement of occupation of the building was achieved with only a small delay.
Hardies were subsequently appointed to manage the design and construction of a second phase of work, refurbishing parts of the North Building to the same improved standard and providing a new conference zone and atrium, and this work started on site in June 2011 and was completed on schedule in June 2012.
