Douglas Smith started his career in Local Authority, Property Services (client) in 1994 as a Junior Quantity Surveyor. After studying part time, he qualified with a BSc Hons degree in Quantity Surveying in 2001. In 2002, Douglas joined the contracting world and worked for Marshall Construction for 17 years, obtaining his MRICS status in 2005, working from project QS, Chartered QS, before being promoted to Chief Estimator & Commercial Lead, building both the turnover and brand year on year.

Douglas had been operating as Commercial Director and trouble shooter for several high profile companies prior to joining Hardies Property and Construction Consultants in 2022 as Partner and Head of Quantity Surveying.

Douglas is known throughout the Industry as the person that gets things done, with passion and work ethic second to none, and has delivered over 500 million pounds of Building Contracts, with the ethos of exceptional service delivery to clients being his top priority. Douglas has delivered work in all sectors and is a refurbishment specialist. Douglas has also delivered BM Trada accredited audits for several high profile businesses
